Chauncy Sherod’s “King (produced by Sean C and LV)” is a psychedelic soul slow jam

Both on his own and as part of the duo CharlieRED—his project with multi-instrumentalist and classically trained composer Cobaine Ivory—singer Chauncy Sherod has been nothing if not prolific. Alongside rappers like Snoop Dogg, Action Bronson, Styles P, and Joey Bada$$, Sherod’s beatific howl mystically collapses the hundred years or so separating hip-hop from its blues roots. Recently he’s been building an identity as a solo artist that folds in acid rock, swampy soul, African psychedelia, and the gravelly rhythms of ‘90s street rap. His new track, “King, (produced by Sean C and LV)” boils all those influences down into a sweat-dripping cosmic slow jam that like it’s being streamed straight down from the intergalactic mothership.
