Check your statement if you bought anything at these 5 venues this year

If you purchased a drink or T-shirt at a Rangers game, or caught a show at Madison Square Garden in the last year, you might want to check your bank/credit card statements. Same goes for The Theater at Madison Square Garden, Radio City Music Hall, Beacon Theatre, and the Chicago Theatre. Billboard reports there’s been a data breach at Madison Square Garden Company, which owns all five venues. The company just issued a statement about a payment card issue that occurred over the last month. MSG launched an investigation after it was made aware of “potential abnormalities in transactions,” and learned that there had been “external unauthorized access” at food and merchandise vendors for all five locations. Apparently, a program had been installed to search for “payment card data as that data was being routed through the system for authorization.”

Potentially affected customers would have swiped in person at any of the five locations mentioned above between November 9, 2015 and October 24, 2016. MSG notes that the breach didn’t affect any online purchases through the venues’ box offices. The issue has been resolved, and customers are safe to use their cards in person going forward. Although the company hasn’t stated how many customers were affected, it has suggested that anyone who meets the criteria above should review their account statements.
