As The A.V. Club has been speculating for several months now, Chelsea Handler will be ending her talk show Chelsea Lately at the end of August. Handler and E! made the news of their conscious uncoupling official yesterday after months of negotiations, all of which must have been terribly awkward considering Handler recently referred to E! as a “sad, sad place to live” in an interview with Howard Stern. What Handler will be doing next is uncertain (although we do know she won’t be hosting The Late Late Show); she’s reportedly been taking meetings with Netflix, Sirius XM, CNN, HLN, FX, and any TV network, satellite radio company, web content provider, or podcasting collective that will have her, all of whom probably have to listen to her complain about what a jerk E! is and reassure her that she will, someday, find a network that truly understands her. To E!’s credit, the network is ending Chelsea Lately’s seven-year run in a dignified fashion by airing a month of “special episodes” in August before Handler’s live, hour-long goodbye special on August 26.
