The Music Box Of Horrors, one of several fine horror-movie marathons that make Chicago a great place to live, is celebrating its 10th year of thrills, chills, and questionable fan hygiene this year. Running from noon on Saturday, October 11 until noon on Sunday, October 12, the marathon tests horror lovers’ endurance by assaulting them with death and dismemberment (and making them sit in butt-numbing movie theater seats) for a full 24 hours.
This year’s lineup includes a 15th-anniversary screening of Takashi Miike’s Audition, a brand-new print of Hammer House of Horror classic The Curse Of The Werewolf, the insane killer-baboon-run-amok movie Shakma, the infamous “video nasty” Nightmare (a.k.a. Nightmare In a Damaged Brain), The Borrower with director John McNaughton in attendance, Dead Snow 2: Red Vs. Dead, and more, many presented on 35mm because the Music Box is legit like that. Festivities will also include original VHS art canvases from Gorgon Video and mind-bending shorts from Everything Is Terrible! (which, full disclosure, is me).
Tickets to the Music Box Of Horrors are $30, but they can be free if you email [email protected] with your full name and email contact info. Five winners will be chosen on Friday, October 10, and will receive two tickets redeemable at will call at the Music Box Theatre box office.
