Chicago, cool off with a free, early screening of Atomic Blonde
Espionage is so hot right now, which means there’s no better time to see Atomic Blonde. David Leitch’s adaptation of the Coldest City graphic novel stars Charlize Theron as Lorraine Broughton, the deadliest, most elegant MI6 agent since James Bond. But this stoic spy has more in common with the killing machine in John Wick, thanks in part to that film’s co-director helming this action-thriller. She’s tasked with keeping some very valuable intelligence out of the wrong hands, and touring Berlin with James McAvoy’s disgraced station chief (it’s a rough life, we know). Throughout, Lorraine turns heads, break necks, and otherwise tries to prevent the downfall of Western civilization.
The A.V. Club’s offering a chance to watch Theron go from Furiosa to killer queen, only taking a break to order another vodka on the rocks. The advance screening will be held on July 25 at 7 p.m. at the Kerasotes Showplace ICON (150 W. Roosevelt). To get a pair of tickets, just enter your info at this link. Be sure to arrive early, because advance screenings are often intentionally overbooked, and after seeing what Theron can do to henchmen in Mad Max: Fury Road, there’s bound to be some serious competition for seats.
