Chicago, de-stress with Damsel early and for free

The Zellner brothers’ upcoming comedy/drama/Western hybrid Damsel is out to re-write two narratives: First, as yet another entry into the ongoing de-Twilighting of Robert Pattinson, and second, as a subversive counter-narrative to the Western cliché of the damsel in distress. That’s about all we’ll elaborate on that point, following the lead of our own A.A. Dowd, who saw the film at this year’s Sundance and wrote, “unusually structured, Damsel has one great surprise in store for viewers—a turn that feeds right into the film’s inspired subversion of genre tradition.”

If you live in Chicago, and want to find out what that surprise is before your friends, just follow this link and enter some basic information to win one of 100 admit-two passes to an advance screening of Damsel on Tuesday, June 26, at 7:00 p.m. at the Landmark Century Centre Cinema. (That’s 2828 N Clark St, on the top floor of the mall.) Just no lollygagging—there’s no chivalry in advance screenings, so you’ll have to arrive early if you want to secure a seat.

Damsel opens on June 22 in New York and LA, with a nationwide rollout continuing through mid-August. You check to see when it’s coming to your town here.
