Chicago, see Adam McKay’s The Big Short early and for free

One of the more poignant moments to come from a big studio comedy in quite some time, the end credits of Adam McKay’s The Other Guys memorably called out Wall Street greed through a well-designed presentation of statistics and infographics. Clearly a major point of interest for McKay, this year’s The Big Short will see him revisiting some of these themes in a much more serious manner, enlisting some of the biggest names in Hollywood to help. Bewigged and channeling the mid-’00s, Brad Pitt, Christian Bale, Steve Carell, and Ryan Gosling will play a team of investors who make it their mission to expose the greed of the 1 percent. The film is a fictionalized account of Michael Lewis’ 2010 book of the same name, which examined the past decade’s economy-threatening housing and credit bubble. The Big Short hits Chicago theaters on December 11, but The A.V. Club and Paramount Pictures have an opportunity for you to see it for free on December 8. An official plot synopsis and trailer for the film can be found below.

“When four outsiders saw what the big banks, media and government refused to, the global collapse of the economy, they had an idea: The Big Short. Their bold investment leads them into the dark underbelly of modern banking where they must question everyone and everything. Based on the true story and best-selling book by Michael Lewis (The Blind Side, Moneyball), and directed by Adam Mckay (Anchorman, Step Brothers) The Big Short stars Christian Bale, Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling and Brad Pitt.”
