Chicago, see Bill Murray in St.Vincent early and for free
When he’s not distancing himself from the idea of a new Ghostbusters film, Bill Murray is distancing himself from the rest of the world in the new film, St. Vincent. Murray plays Vincent, a drunken retiree with a penchant for gambling and pregnant strippers. When Maggie (Melissa McCarthy) and her son Oliver (Jaeden Lieberher) move into the house next door, Vincent reluctantly takes on the role as babysitter for Oliver, and soon the two form a friendship, leaving both of them with a new found view of the world. The film hits theaters October 24, but The A.V. Club has a chance for you to attend an advance screening October 16, here in Chicago. For a chance to receive event passes simply follow the link here and enter the RSVP code AVCLUBU487. Remember, seating is first come, first serve, so arrive early! A synopsis and trailer for the film can be found below.
“In ST. VINCENT, Maggie (Melissa McCarthy), a single mother, moves into a new home in Brooklyn with her 12-year old son, Oliver (Jaeden Lieberher). Forced to work long hours, she has no choice but to leave Oliver in the care of their new neighbor, Vincent (Bill Murray), a retired curmudgeon with a penchant for alcohol and gambling. An odd friendship soon blossoms between the improbable pair. Together with a pregnant stripper named Daka (Naomi Watts), Vincent brings Oliver along on all the stops that make up his daily routine – the race track, a strip club, and the local dive bar. Vincent helps Oliver grow to become a man, while Oliver begins to see in Vincent something that no one else is able to: a misunderstood man with a good heart.”
