Chicago, see DJ Zac Efron in We Are Your Friends early and for free
As Portlandia knows, everyone is a DJ these days: Your neighbor, your barista, your mom, even Zac Efron. We Are Your Friends finds Efron playing Cole, a young artist trying to make it big and slowly spinning his way into the heart of Sophie (Emily Ratajkowski). The only problem is (cue a “record scratch”), Sophie is dating James (Wes Bentley), the more experienced DJ who has taken Cole under his disc-jockeying wing. Oh man, the life of a DJ is complicated. The tale of rising stars and dropping beats comes from director Max Joseph, the guy formerly known as Nev Schulman’s Catfish cameraman. We Are Your Friends opens everywhere on August 28, but The A.V. Club and Warner Bros. have an opportunity for you to see it for free on Wednesday, August 19. For your chance to win a pair of passes to the advance screening, simply follow the link here and enter the code AVC819WAYF. As per usual, seats will be first come, first served, so you’ll want to arrive early to get a spot. An official plot synopsis and trailer can be found below.
“We Are Your Friends is about what it takes to find your voice. Set in the world of electronic music and Hollywood nightlife, an aspiring 23-year-old DJ named Cole (Zac Efron) spends his days scheming with his childhood friends and his nights working on the one track that will set the world on fire. All of this changes when he meets a charismatic but damaged older DJ named James (Wes Bentley), who takes him under his wing. Things get complicated, however, when Cole starts falling for James’ much younger girlfriend, Sophie (Emily Ratajkowski). With Cole’s forbidden relationship intensifying and his friendships unraveling, he must choose between love, loyalty, and the future he is destined for.”
