Chicago, see Hands Of Stone early and for free
We’ve written before about Hands Of Stone, Robert De Niro’s first return to the cinematic boxing ring since 2013’s Grudge Match proved he was still physically capable of standing in a square made of ropes with boxing gloves dangling from his arms. (Fun fact: De Niro was also in a non-Grudge boxing movie called Raging Bull once upon a time, although that was a lot of Dirty Grandpas ago.) The new film sees the Oscar-winning actor play legendary fisticuffs trainer Ray Arcel, as he coaches up-and-comer (and eventual welterweight title holder) Roberto Durán (Édgar Ramírez) for a bout against Sugar Ray Leonard (Usher).
Chicago-based cinematic boxing fans looking to see De Niro in mentor mode (or just fans of Durán’s career) are in luck: we’re offering a chance to see an advance screening of Hands Of Stone on August 22 at 7 p.m. Just head over here and click “Get my passes.” The showing is being held at the AMC River East 21, and will probably be overbooked, so make sure to get there early if you want to be sure to get a seat. If you’re on the fence about seeing the film, you can check out the trailer for Hands Of Stone right here:
