Chicago, see Kevin Costner in Criminal early and for free

Though he spent the bulk of the ’90s playing iconic heroes like Wyatt Earp and Robin Hood, Kevin Costner’s been eager to tap into his dark side as of late. His latest film, Criminal, sees him playing a volatile death-row inmate who, for some reason, is given a chance at redemption when he’s implanted with a CIA operative’s memories and is tasked with stopping some sort of global threat. Although it sounds a little absurd, it’s still a chance to see Costner go all Taken on some nondescript baddies and be a badass in general. Plus, it’s got Gary Oldman and Tommy Lee Jones! People we like!

Criminal opens in theaters everywhere on April 15, but The A.V. Club and Lionsgate have an opportunity for you to see it for free on April 12. Remember: Advance screenings are often intentionally overbooked, so be sure to arrive early if you want to guarantee yourself a seat. An official plot synopsis and trailer for the film can be found below.

The story of the right man in the wrong body. In a last-ditch effort to stop a diabolical plot, a dead CIA operative’s memories, secrets, and skills are implanted into an unpredictable and dangerous death-row inmate in hopes that he will complete the operative’s mission.
