Chicago, see Learning To Drive early, with a Q&A from Ben Kingsley and Patricia Clarkson
In Learning To Drive, Patricia Clarkson plays a newly single Manhattan book editor who begins taking driving lessons from Sir Ben Kingsley’s Darwan Singh Tur. Of course, Darwan’s got issues of his own: He’s trying to adjust to life with his new wife from an arranged marriage. As the two disparate New Yorkers strike up an unlikely friendship, it sure sounds like “learning to drive” will be a metaphor for more than just, you know, learning to drive. The film opens in Chicago on August 28, but The A.V. Club and Broad Green Pictures have an opportunity for you to see it for free on August 26, followed directly by a live Q&A with Ben Kingsley and Patricia Clarkson. For your chance to win a pair of passes to the special event, simply follow the link here and enter your information. As always, seats will be first come, first served, so be sure to arrive early. An official plot synopsis and trailer for the film can be found below.
“Wendy Shields is a book editor from New York facing a marriage crisis. Darwan Singh Tur is a driving instructor from India with an abiding respect for tradition. When Wendy sets out to reclaim her independence, she hits a unique roadblock – she never learned to drive. She hires Darwan, a driving instructor and part-time cabdriver, to teach her. They form an unlikely bond that inspires each to embrace the humor, freedom, and strength that come with starting anew. The film premiered at the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival and was voted first-runner up for the People’s Choice Award.”
