Chicago, see Michael Fassbender as Macbeth early and for free

Since Shakespeare’s works have been adapted for film more than any other author, it can be difficult to muster up excitement for yet another retelling. Of course, if said adaptation has internationally acclaimed actors Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard heading up the cast, then the anticipation levels rise considerably. The two play Lord and Lady Macbeth in the latest interpretation of Shakespeare’s Macbeth, the iconic tragedy about the psychological effects of one man’s lust for power. The film reunites Australian director Justin Kurzel (The Snowtown Murders) with cinematographer Adam Arkapaw (Top Of The Lake, True Detective) for what looks like an especially tense and beautiful reimagining of the classic story. Macbeth opens in Chicago theaters on December 11, but The A.V. Club and The Weinstein Company have an opportunity for you to see it for free on December 7. Remember: Advance screenings are often intentionally overbooked, so be sure to arrive early if you want to guarantee yourself a seat. An official plot synopsis and trailer for the film can be found below.

“From the producers of The King’s Speech comes the story of a fearless Scottish General, Macbeth (Michael Fassbender), whose ambitious wife (Marion Cotillard) urges him to use wicked means to gain power of the throne. A thrilling interpretation of one of Shakespeare’s most famous and compelling characters, Macbeth is a dramatic reimagining of the realities of war-torn times and a tale of all-consuming passion and ambition.”
