Chicago, see POV-actioner Hardcore Henry early and for free (and win a GoPro)
Thanks to improved graphics and the desire to immerse players in a more visceral experience, video games are becoming more and more like movies each day. Further blurring the line between the two mediums is this year’s Hardcore Henry, a thrill-a-second action movie filmed almost entirely on GoPro cameras, giving the whole thing the feel of a real-life first-person shooter game. The film employs a few familiar faces (namely, Sharlto Copley and Tim Roth), but the real draw is the promise of one absolutely ridiculous, in-your-face set piece after the other.
Hardcore Henry crashes into theaters everywhere on April 8, but The A.V. Club and STX Entertainment have an opportunity for you to see it for free on April 6. For your chance to win a pair of passes to the advance screening, simply follow the link here and enter your information.
And, while we can’t recommend trying out any of the stunts from Hardcore Henry yourself, we’ve also got an opportunity for you to make some high octane home movies on a GoPro of your very own. That’s right—one lucky reader will win a brand new GoPro Hero, courtesy of STX Entertainment. For your chance to win, follow the link here and enter your information.
Remember: Advance screenings are often intentionally overbooked, so be sure to arrive early if you want to guarantee yourself a seat. An official plot synopsis and trailer for the film can be found below.
“Strap in. Hardcore Henry is one of the most unflinchingly original wild-rides to hit the big screen in a long time: You remember nothing. Mainly because you’ve just been brought back from the dead by your wife (Haley Bennett). She tells you that your name is Henry. Five minutes later, you are being shot at, your wife has been kidnapped, and you should probably go get her back. Who’s got her? His name’s Akan (Danila Kozlovsky); he’s a powerful warlord with an army of mercenaries, and a plan for world domination. You’re also in an unfamiliar city of Moscow, and everyone wants you dead. Everyone except for a mysterious British fellow called Jimmy (Sharlto Copley). He may be on your side, but you aren’t sure. If you can survive the insanity, and solve the mystery, you might just discover your purpose and the truth behind your identity. Good luck, Henry. You’re likely going to need it…”
