Chicago, see the new horror movie Lights Out early and for free
Since breaking through in a big way with Saw back in 2004, James Wan has been behind some of modern horror’s most successful (and frightening) movies. From the Insidious series to the ever-expanding The Conjuring franchise, the man has a knack for making audiences scream. And though he already scored big earlier this summer with The Conjuring 2, he’s at it again this month, tackling one of the most basic of human fears: the fear of the dark. Produced by Wan, Lights Out adapts director David F. Sandberg’s horrifying short for the big screen and stars Maria Bello and Teresa Palmer as a mother and daughter haunted by some ghouls who thrive in the night.
Lights Out opens in theaters everywhere on July 22, but The A.V. Club and New Line Cinema have an opportunity for you to see it for free on Monday, July 18. From producer James Wan comes a tale of an unknown terror that lurks in the dark. When Rebecca left home, she thought she left her childhood fears behind. Growing up, she was never really sure of what was and wasn’t real when the lights went out… and now her little brother, Martin, is experiencing the same unexplained and terrifying events that had once tested her sanity and threatened her safety. A frightening entity with a mysterious attachment to their mother, Sophie, has reemerged. But this time, as Rebecca gets closer to unlocking the truth, there is no denying that all their lives are in danger… once the lights go out.
