Chicago, see the romantic historical drama Loving early and for free
With Loving, director Jeff Nichols (Midnight Special, Take Shelter) diverges from his typical mix of supernatural mystery and menace to take on a historic moment for civil rights. The film tells the story of Virginians Richard and Mildred Loving, an interracial couple whose 1967 Supreme Court case made anti-miscegenation laws unconstitutional. In the film, Nichols paints an understated picture of quietly heroic figures, played here by Joel Edgerton and Ruth Negga. (And, yes, some awards talk is circling their performances.)
Loving will be released in Chicago on November 11, but residents who happen to be readers of The A.V. Club can see it on November 9 at 7 p.m.. You can pick up your passes here. Remember you should get to AMC River East early to ensure seating, as these screenings get crowded. You can watch the trailer for the movie below.
