Chicago, see Tina Fey and Amy Poehler in Sisters early and for free
If the potential to be underwhelmed by The Force Awakens has left you feeling anxious, then why not spend the holidays in theaters with something you can count on? SNL alum, two-time Golden Globes hosts, and best friends Tina Fey and Amy Poehler always bring the funny, so their reunion in this month’s Sisters should provide suitable counter-programming during Star Wars-mania. The comedy finds the two (somewhat improbably) playing sisters, intent on throwing one final bash at their childhood home. Flipping the script on their Baby Mama routine, Poehler’s Maura is the straitlaced careerist, with Fey getting the opportunity to play bold and brash as the hard-partying Kate. The film also stars Ike Barinholtz, Maya Rudolph, and John Cena, with James Brolin and Dianne Wiest as the girls’ parents. Sisters opens nationwide on on December 18, but The A.V. Club and Universal have and opportunity for you to see it for free on December 15. Remember: Advance screenings are often intentionally overbooked, so be sure to arrive early if you want to guarantee yourself a seat. An official plot synopsis and trailer for the film can be found below.
“Tina Fey and Amy Poehler reunite for Sisters, a new film from Pitch Perfect director Jason Moore about two disconnected sisters summoned home to clean out their childhood bedroom before their parents sell the family house. Looking to recapture their glory days, they throw one final high-school-style party for their classmates, which turns into the cathartic rager that a bunch of ground-down adults really need.”
