Chicago, stand on The Edge Of Seventeen early and for free

Coming-of-age dramedies are everywhere, but The Edge Of Seventeen claims to be something different: An honest, candid look at what it’s really like to be a teenage girl. Hailee Steinfeld stars as Nadine, a teen uncomfortable in her own skin whose miserable existence is made even more unbearable when she finds out that her best friend Krista (Haley Lu Richardson) is secretly sleeping with her irritatingly perfect older brother Darian (Blake Jenner). Woody Harrelson co-stars as Nadine’s equally cynical history teacher and reluctant mentor.

The Edge Of Seventeen played at this year’s TIFF, where it earned positive reviews from critics like Variety’s Owen Glieberman, who called it “one of the savviest teen comedies in years.” The movie opens in Chicago on November 18, but The A.V. Club is giving our readers a chance to see it early and for free at the Showplace ICON theater on Thursday, November 3 at 7 p.m. To enter to win one of 50 pairs of passes to the film, just follow this link and enter your contact information. Remember: Advance screenings are often intentionally overbooked, so be sure to arrive early if you want to secure a seat.
