Chris Brown and Lil Wayne named in federal drug investigation of Miami producer
According to a report from the Miami Herald (via Spin), Chris Brown and Lil Wayne have just been named as part of a federal drug investigation regarding their alleged ties to a Florida music producer named Harrison Garcia—a.k.a. “The CEO Of Sizzurp.” As indicated by that moniker, Garcia had been accused of selling the cough-syrup-based drink known as “sizzurp,” “lean,” and “purple drank,” as well as marijuana and Xanax, and he’s just been convicted on five felonies related to dealing drugs. Brown and Lil Wayne are involved because federal investigators recently revealed that they’re looking into a $15,000 wire transfer that Brown made to Garcia last year, which Garcia apparently bragged about in a text message:
Garcia sent a bragging text message to a woman of a screen shot of the $15,000 bank deposit from “Christopher Brown” into his account. “Look who put money my account,” Garcia wrote.
The woman responded: “What that for LOL” Garcia replied with several smiley face emojis: “Drugs…lean and shit.”
Other text messages showed Garcia allegedly instructing one of his guys to deliver marijuana to Lil Wayne, with Garcia saying “I’ll shoot u some trees” and then adding “It’s for Wayne.” Weirdly, though, the frankness of that particular conversation almost could’ve helped the defense’s argument, which was basically that Garcia is all talk and just pretended to be a hip-hop drug dealer so he could look cool on Instagram. Garcia’s lawyer even referred to him as a “27-year-old schmuck” at one point, but it didn’t end up doing him any good.
The Chris Brown and Lil Wayne connections are still part of an open investigation, and Garcia is facing life in prison as part of his conviction. His sentencing will happen in June.
