Chris Gethard’s Diddy Door has opened, and Zach Galifianakis is pissed

The Diddy Door has opened.

For those not up to date on the mythology of The Chris Gethard Show, Fusion’s recently acquired take on the Broad City co-star’s long-running public-access chat program, said Puffy Portal was a special door Gethard had installed on his set on day one of the new series. The only key to the door—which features the word “Diddy” hanging over it in strong block letters—was then mailed to rapper and fashion mogul Sean Combs, on the understanding that he could use it to stop by and visit the show whenever he deigned to appear. According to an interview Gethard gave with Noisey today, the pair originally hit it off when Combs appeared on the UCB stage version of Gethard’s show way back in 2011, leading to the long-standing open offer.

Well, the time has finally come, and the Door apparently opened 20 minutes into tonight’s episode of the show. (Fusion released the clip of Combs’ appearance earlier today, presumably to build anticipation for the event.) And although it’s not clear how much of a surprise Combs’ appearance actually was—Gethard hints in the interview that it was “more real than you’re assuming”—there’s definitely some spontaneous energy in the crowd when the set gets a phone call partway into the artist’s appearance. On the other line: Zach Galifianakis, who proceeds to get into an argument with Diddy about who’s actually “saving” the show. (Despite having an executive producer credit on the series, Galifianakis doesn’t appear to have any special entryways designated in his honor.)

Now that the Diddy Door is open, though, it’s unclear how often it’ll end up being used. As Gethard explained in the interview: “When you’re dealing with someone like Diddy, you work on Diddy’s timeline and you work on Diddy’s schedule. He really is a force of nature.”
