Chris Gethard to commit Career Suicide on HBO
Chris Gethard’s comedy operates from a well of deep, sometimes brutal honesty. (Take, for instance, his frequently hilarious, occasionally depressing podcast Beautiful Stories From Anonymous People, in which he’s not allowed to hang up on the various strangers who dial him up every week.) Now, the Chris Gethard Show host will bring that comic vulnerability to HBO, which will soon be broadcasting a taped version of his one-man show Career Suicide.
Executive produced by frequent HBO buddy Judd Apatow, the show covers the comic’s take on “depression, alcoholism, suicide, and the other funniest parts of life.” Gethard debuted the program last October, earning strong reviews from The New York Times and The Village Voice. HBO will film the special on February 11 at Manhattan’s Tribeca Performing Arts Center; it’ll air some time in May.
