Chris O’Dowd becomes enraptured with The Twilight Zone’s “Blue Scorpion”
Here’s what’s happening in the world of television for Thursday, May 23. All times are Eastern.
Top pick
The Twilight Zone (CBS All Access, 3:01 a.m.): Well, this looks upsetting. There’s a long line of stories in genre fiction and filmmaking in which an object—a car, say, or a VHS tape, or a ring, or a diary that writes you special messages from the past in a not at all suspicious manner—seems to be haunted, possessed, cursed, or in some other way, doomed. The original Twilight Zone had just such an installment, centered on a seemingly cursed sword, but in this case, it’s a gun. Oh, and a special bullet.
Chris O’Dowd gives world-class sad face, and this looks great. Noel Murray is on the case.
Regular coverage
iZombie (The CW, 8 p.m.)
RuPaul’s Drag Race (VH1, 9 p.m.)
Wild card
The Name Of The Rose (Sundance, 10 p.m., series premiere): The first two episodes of this Umberto Eco adaptation air tonight. The cast includes John Turturro, Rupert Everett, Michael Emerson, and Peter Davison.
Listen, either you want to watch Turturro, Everett, and Emerson say ominous things to each other while tramping about in long robes while Turturro tries to solve murder mysteries, or you don’t. We’re in the former camp.
