Chris Pratt's new Lego Movie character is a parody of every Chris Pratt action hero from the last 4 years

It’s hard to imagine now, but back in 2014, when The Lego Movie first came out, Chris Pratt was not yet a billion-dollar movie star, known for playing roguish space pirates and dashing, dino-loving action heroes. In those halcyon, pre-Guardians Of The Galaxy days, Pratt was just the charming goofus from Parks And Recreation, lending his voice to a similarly goofball Minifig guy who thought that everything was awesome.

The writers and stars of that film’s sequel, The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part—including Pratt himself—are apparently well aware of the changes that have happened in their leading man’s career over the last four years, which is presumably why they went ahead and gave him a second role in the much-anticipated follow-up. And not just any role: It’s Rex Dangervest, baby!

As revealed by the movie’s latest trailer, Rex is pretty much an amalgamated mockery of every “character” Pratt’s played over the last few years. He does it all: defend galaxies, train raptors, rustle dogies, and more. It’s all very silly, but at least it suggests that Pratt and the film’s creative team are having fun with his newfound superstar status.

The Lego Movie 2 is out on February 8, 2019.
