Christina Hendricks to play a philanthropic love interest in Bad Santa 2

Christina Hendricks hasn’t exactly been wallowing in grief since the end of Mad Men last spring; she’s moved on by accepting roles in other period dramas (because why mess with a good thing?), as well as a contemporary film about bullied adults. And now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Hendricks will linger in the present with a part in the upcoming Bad Santa sequel that will see the return of Billy Bob Thornton, Tony Cox, and Brett Kelly. Mark Waters (Mean Girls and, um, Mr. Popper’s Penguins) will direct the film, which is being written by Shauna Cross (If I Stay) and Entourage movie scribes Doug Ellin and Johnny Rosenthal.

Hendricks is set to play a rich, Ivy League-educated woman who runs the charity that’s being targeted by the Bad Santa himself (Billy Bob Thornton) and his similarly-dispositioned mother (Kathy Bates). And, like Lauren Graham’s character before her, the philanthropic lady will reportedly have a thing for wizened thieves in Santa costumes. That image aside, here’s hoping she has an opportunity to lead another conga line.
