Best-selling author, columnist, and lovably contentious contrarian Christopher Hitchens revealed yesterday that he has been diagnosed with esophageal cancer, which has forced him to suspend his book tour for the just-released memoir Hitch 22. Hitchens released a succinct statement through his publisher that reads, “I have been advised by my physician that I must undergo a course of chemotherapy on my esophagus. This advice seems persuasive to me. I regret having had to cancel so many engagements at such short notice.”
