Christopher Plummer, Martin Landau starring in Atom Egoyan’s Remember
May is shaping up to be a big month for Atom Egoyan. Devil’s Knot, the Canadian director’s dramatization of the West Memphis Three case, begins trickling into American theaters next week. A couple weeks later, his latest film, The Captive, will compete for the Palme D’Or at the Cannes Film Festival. And The Hollywood Reporter has just announced that Egoyan’s next picture, a thriller called Remember, will begin shooting in Toronto in July. The cast includes Christopher Plummer, Martin Landau, Bruno Ganz, Gunter Lamprecht, Breaking Bad’s Dean Norris, and presumably a few people who aren’t guys over the age of 50.
Not much else is known about the movie—and the title isn’t much help either, as just about all of Egoyan’s films could be called Remember. (The dude’s got a thing with memory.) But producers are describing it as “a compelling thriller in which the darkest chapter of modern history collides with a contemporary mission of revenge.” So…. Nazis, right? Maybe Plummer is reprising the role of Captain von Trapp from The Sound Of Music, and tracking down the officers who forced his singing family into Switzerland. Or maybe it’s a Downfall prequel, with Ganz reprising the role of Hitler. Or maybe it’s some sort of Sound Of Music/Downfall crossover. The possibilities are endless, so long as they probably have something to do with Nazis.
