Chvrches release the first single for 7-Inches For Planned Parenthood

Earlier this month, fundraising group 7-Inches For Planned Parenthood (“Do we know there’s a joke in the name? We do.”) announced that it was putting together a box set of curated vinyl singles, with all the money from the sale going to popular right-wing punching bag (and vital medical services provider) Planned Parenthood. To kick off the campaign—which features contributions from musicians, comedians, visual artists, and more—7-Inches released a comedy video showing Zack Galifianakis giving John Legend and Annie Clark notes on their rendition of Minnie Riperton’s “Lovin’ You.” Now, the group has released the first official single from the box set, with Scottish synthpoppers Chvrches leading the chvrge.

The band’s lead singer, Lauren Mayberry, revealed that “Down Side Of Me” wasn’t written specifically for the campaign, but noted that its calls for faith in ourselves and each other resonate in a moment when government feels like it’s on the verge of failing the people it’s supposed to protect. “We should all be able to have faith that our governments are working in our best interests,” Mayberry wrote. “And if they aren’t then, they should be challenged and held to account. ‘I‘ll believe that you’re all that you said you would be.’”

The single was accompanied with a new music video, directed by Kirsten Stewart, and, like all the vinyl in the set, comes with original artwork, this time from Brooklyn’s William Villalongo. You can stream the song on Apple Music and Spotify or buy it from iTunes, or just drop $100 on a preorder of the physical box set—which will also feature contributions from Björk, Common, Foo Fighters, John Legend, Margaret Atwood, Nico Muhly, Shepard Fairey, and many more—right here.
