Cinematic history, now with 100 percent more cats
One thing most people agree about film is that—despite its ability to commingle technology, storytelling, music, and visual composition into a medium of unparalleled emotional power—it does not have enough cats. But not anymore. A U.K.-based couple has been slowly reworking iconic cinematic images to feature their cats. Some are poorly edited together:
Others are recreated to equivalent lo-fi effect:
The inveterate cat people maintain a second Instagram account exclusively of behind-the-scenes footage from the making of these images. While the end results are a much-needed corrective to Hollywood’s ongoing refusal to remake all of their movies except with cats, it’s also worth noting that some of these movies already have cats, such as Lady And The Tramp and Alien. Alien’s Jones, in particular, is one of the all-time great cinematic cats, mysterious, aloof, and omniscient—just the type of cat more movies could use.
The couple behind the Instagram account plans to continue uploading more deliriously stupid cat remakes, so there’s hope yet.
