Claire Foy is The Girl In The Spider's Web in new trailer
The trailer for the latest cinematic incarnation of Stieg Larsson’s Millennium series, The Girl In The Spider’s Web, hit the internet today, with Claire Foy stepping into the role of master hacker/angel of vengeance Lisbeth Salander, played by Noomi Rapace in the 2009 Swedish original and Rooney Mara in David Fincher’s 2011 American remake. This particular film is based on the fourth book in the series written by David Lagercrantz, who took over after Larsson’s original Millennium trilogy became wildly, posthumously popular in Sweden and abroad.
The trailer leans heavily into the “angel of vengeance” angle, opening with the setup to what, given that the film is directed by Don’t Breathe’s Fede Alvarez, we can only assume is a brutally inventive scene of breathtaking carnage. Cut to intense action montage and a heavy-handed score overlaid with voiceover of a woman saying, “Are you not Lisbeth Salander, righter of wrongs? The girl who hurts men who hurt women?” and you can practically hear the “…in the age of #MeToo” editorials beginning to type themselves.
The Girl In The Spider’s Web spins into theaters on November 9.
