Taking over the role originated by recently outed actor David Hyde Pierce, still officially not gay American Idol vet Clay Aiken will be joining the cast of Monty Python's Spamalot on Broadway this spring as "Sir Robin," the brave knight who is not at all afraid to be killed in nasty ways. Aiken's trip to the Great White Way follows other Idol names like Fantasia Barrino, who received a lot of critical praise when she took over the lead in The Color Purple this year—though as Variety notes, it remains to be seen "whether Aiken acolytes and Monty Python enthusiasts overlap to the extent that fans of Barrino and The Color Purple do."
