Clay Aiken says he was a “dumbass” for not believing Trump was racist
One of the more frustrating things about Donald Trump’s turn toward openly supporting Nazis is that pretty much everyone saw it coming. It’s not like it was a secret that Trump had some racist tendencies, but the people who claimed to know him maintained that he wasn’t actually racist, he was just saying and doing racist things. One such person is Clay Aiken, who appeared on the 2012 season of Celebrity Apprentice and has popped recently to make it clear that he’s no fan of the great orange one. In July, Aiken suggested that NBC really decided who should get fired on the TV show instead of Trump himself, meaning he was just the powerless host on the show rather than a big-shot decision-maker.
Now, Aiken is apologizing for any times he defended Donald Trump, tweeting that he’s a “fucking dumbass” for not believing that Trump was as racist as he seems.
Aiken explains that he was always certain that Trump was “a dumpster fire as a president,” but he still felt confident that the man wasn’t racist. Now, though, he knows that he was wrong.
It would be nice if Paul Ryan were the guy tweeting about being a dumbass like this, but at least Aiken is doing the right thing here.
