Superfans of Robert Zemeckis’ 1985 blockbuster Back To The Future may think they know all there is to know about the nostalgia-driven, time-travel-centric comedy concerning a 1980s vest enthusiast (Michael J. Fox) who travels back to the Eisenhower era and briefly dates his own mother (Lea Thompson). But our sister site ClickHole has a few surprises in store for even diehard Future-heads with an eye-opening new video entitled “This Will Change The Way You Watch Back To The Future.” If this video is to be believed (and it likely should not be), Zemeckis’ seemingly lighthearted film contains a number of odd and obscure background details with dark and potentially troubling meanings. For example: “Screenwriter Bob Gale chose 88 miles per hour as the speed of time travel because that’s the speed he was driving when he hit a homeless person with his car, thus changing his future forever.” And even though Back To The Future is extremely familiar cinematic comfort food for many, it came close to being a very different motion picture altogether, with a clumsy working title of Back Time The Future and a DeLorean which leaves trails of hair rather than fire. (“Fire tested better with audiences,” the narrator states.) And here’s something which may disappoint fans: Chuck Berry was not available to portray himself during the Enchantment Under The Sea Dance sequence, so it’s really legendary bluesman B.B. King on the other end of that historic phone call from Chuck’s cousin, Marvin. Sorry.
