Clint Eastwood still doing A Star Is Born with Beyoncé, now possibly with Leonardo DiCaprio

The Clint Eastwood-directed, Beyoncé-starring remake of A Star Is Born has been upgraded from “really happening” to “really happening and possibly with Leonardo DiCaprio,” as Deadline reports that Eastwood has entered into talks with the star of his J. Edgar Hoover biopic about taking the lead. When the project was first reported back in January, it was rumored that the role potentially could go to Will Smith; no word on why that’s no longer the plan, but clearly the hierarchy of Hollywood goes Will Smith to Leonardo DiCaprio to, I don’t know, Russell Brand, maybe. DiCaprio would certainly be an unusual choice for the role of an aging, alcoholic singer who mentors and then eventually marries Beyoncé’s earnest young starlet. But then, this film is already a Clint Eastwood-directed remake of A Star Is Born with Beyoncé, so it’s well past the point of reason as it is.
