Coach Peter Berg finally forfeits on the Friday Night Lights movie game

After five seasons of being the beleaguered underdog, only to finally get a chance at taking state—50 of them, to be exact—with a feature film, Coach Peter Berg has gathered the Friday Night Lights team for a speech in which he sagely, tough-lovingly advised them to give up on this long, drawn-out game of pretending like there's gonna be another movie. “There’s not gonna be a movie,” Berg tells Collider, in the straight-shootin’ manner by which real men forfeit. “We talked about it, some people thought it was a good idea, some didn’t; I’ve come to believe it’s probably not a good idea and I seriously doubt it’s gonna happen.” Those who didn’t believe likely include Kyle Chandler, who’s greeted all questions about a movie revisiting his Friday Night Lights character with the sort of heavy-lidded squint that lets the person asking know he’s deeply disappointed in them, seeing as he already told them to leave everything on the narrative field when the show reached its conclusion. And, with Berg finally having let Coach Taylor tell him something, he’s now ready to join him in throwing in the towel, thus fulfilling the show’s maxim of “Clear eyes, full hearts, no compelling reason to continue.”
