Coachella promoter may be launching a musical cruise
Goldenvoice, the promoter behind California's Coachella Festival, may be hitting the high seas. The L.A. Times is reporting that the company is planning a music-themed cruise to launch out of Florida this December. While there’s no line-up, pricing, or specific dates known yet, Goldenvoice is supposed to be making some sort of announcement later today.
This decision doesn’t totally come out of left field: In the past few years, floating festivals have become the hot thing to do in the music industry, with acts like John Mayer, Weezer, and even R. Kelly hosting expeditions. These are in addition to other promoter-sponsored, scene-centric trips like the HARD Cruise, which focuses on the EDM market.
The Coachella Festival itself expanded to two weekends this year, something that Goldenvoice will be continuing on April 12 and 19 in 2013. Despite some financial issues that led to the suggestion that the festival might move out of Indio, California, where it’s been held since 1999, it recently confirmed that it's staying put, at least through this year. The Times also recently reported that Goldenvoice is looking to launch a 150,000-person capacity festival in California’s Orange County sometime next year.
