Colbert joked about a 2020 presidential run on Russian TV

Stephen Colbert is in Russia at the moment, filming segments for his Late Show on CBS. Besides taunting Donald Trump about finding those Comey tapes he now claims to never have had, Colbert has also been doing the rounds on local TV, getting into a vodka-fueled conversation on late-night show Evening Urgant.

Colbert got in a number of swipes at our current president’s alleged ties to Mother Russia while on the program, including a toast praising “the beautiful and friendly Russian people,” adding, “I have no idea why no members of the Trump administration can remember meeting you.”

Colbert saved his big announcement for later, though, remarking, “I’m here in Russia …I am here to announce that I am considering a run for president in 2020, and I thought it would be better to cut out the middle man and just tell the Russians myself. If anyone would like to work on my campaign in an unofficial capacity, please, just come let me know.”

This isn’t the first time Colbert has poked at the mechanisms of political power; in 2008, during his time on The Colbert Report, he launched a similar run at the top, and started his own semi-fictitious Super PAC in 2011, ahead of the 2012 campaign.
