Colin Farrell goes from True Detective to Fantastic Beasts
Because he could probably use a different kind of cheering up, Colin Farrell has signed on to J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter spin-off, Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Farrell will play Graves, a wizard who meets magizoologist Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) in New York as Newt is, presumably, tracking the titular beasts through Central Park and/or Williamsburg. Another possible introduction for the two characters could be over a lost dog, even if a canine is a less magical animal than say, a hippogriff.
The True Detective actor joins a cast that includes Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Ezra Miller, and, in her feature-film debut, singer Alison Sudol. Aside from being shot by birdmen in Vinci, Farrell also dabbled in supernatural animal adventures this year in Yorgos Lanthimos’ The Lobster, in which he had to try to find his soul mate before being turned into the seafood special. Warner Bros. will release Fantastic Beasts on November 18, 2016.
