Colin Farrell meets some “vengeful bitches” in the trailer for Sofia Coppola’s The Beguiled

The first trailer for Sofia Coppola’s The Beguiled, a remake of the 1971 Don Siegel drama starring Clint Eastwood and Coppola’s first feature film since 2013’s The Bling Ring, has arrived. As expected, it’s thick with sensual atmosphere—we’d expect nothing less from Sofia Coppola—as Elle Fanning suggests that she and the rest of the students at a Southern girls’ boarding school during the Civil War show injured Union soldier Colin Farrell “some real Southern hospitality.” (Sex. She’s talking about sex.) The trailer also appears to be more faithful to the 19th-century period setting than Coppola has been in the past (Marie Antoinette, anyone?) lighting dim nighttime scenes with nothing but candlelight a la Barry Lyndon or The Witch.

The Beguiled co-stars Nicole Kidman and Kirsten Dunst, and opens in select cities on June 23, with an expansion the following week.
