Colin Trevorrow and Steven Spielberg to re-team for Intelligent Life
Colin Trevorrow and Steven Spielberg are apparently best buddies following their collaboration on Jurassic World, which Trevorrow directed and Spielberg executive produced. Maybe Spielberg is impressed with the Safety Not Guaranteed director’s cinematic acumen, or maybe he just thinks it’s cute that Trevorrow used so many of the elder director’s iconic shots for the new dinosaur flick. Meanwhile, Trevorrow still saves every voicemail Spielberg leaves him and sleeps under E.T. blankets at night. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the two are so simpatico that they are planning to follow Jurassic World with another project, this one called Intelligent Life.
The original script, which Trevorrow and writer Derek Connolly named The Ambassador, followed a United Nations worker with the job of representing humans if aliens ever made contact with us. And then of course aliens did, and the ambassador fell in love with an “otherworldly woman.” It’s unclear how much of that original premise remains in the new take on this project—all that’s clear is that once DreamWorks acquired the script, it suddenly needed a much larger budget. “But there must be some bad aliens, right? And they would probably need to destroy at least a few buildings to show us they mean business. And the nice ones need rainbow lights on their spaceships,” Spielberg probably said during a call with Trevorrow, who eagerly agreed while twirling the phone cord around his pointer finger.
Jurassic World opens June 12, and is probably the beginning of a beautiful friendship.
