Ignoring Ian Malcom’s warning that “taking dinosaurs off this island is the worst idea in the long, sad history of bad ideas,” Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow suggests that the next installment of the franchise won’t be confined to Isla Nublar. In an interview with Wired, Trevorrow, who is co-writing the next Jurassic film, said that the sequel will ditch the setup of “a bunch of dinosaurs chasing people on an island.” He added, “That’ll get old real fast,” to the delight of sarcastic internet commentators everywhere.
Trevorrow explained:
I feel like the idea [is] that this isn’t always going to be limited to theme parks, and there are applications for this science that reach far beyond entertainment. … What if this went open source? It’s almost like InGen is Mac, but what if PC gets their hands on it?
Well, in that case, it’s pretty clear what would happen. The Mac dinosaurs would be nearly identical, well synchronized, and quite reliable in the heat of the action, while the PC dinosaurs would be easily distinguishable, powerful per customization, but at risk of getting a disease when the free anti-virus trial expires. The next Jurassic World will arrive on June 22, 2018, giving you plenty of time to debate which type of dinosaur would be better, cheaper, and have less annoying commercials.
