Come on in, the water’s fine for a Splash remake

Let’s face it, there was only so much traction Hollywood was going to get out of dueling live-action Little Mermaid movies, so it’s a good thing that Brian Grazer remembered that oh, that’s right, he was once involved in a movie about a merlady, too. Back in 1984, Grazer teamed up his Imagine Entertainment co-founder Ron Howard on Splash, which saw Tom Hanks charm the scales off Daryl Hannah before becoming Aquaman (we think, it’s been a while). Well, Grazer tells CNBC that he’s preparing to cast off with a remake of the aquatic rom-com, but with added star(fish) power.

“I’m actually doing ‘Splash,’ and I can’t say [anything more]. I’m actually going to do it from the point-of-view of…I can’t say anything about it. There’s a movie star that’s going to be involved, [but] I haven’t announced it.”

Although he wouldn’t reveal the movie star’s identity, we think it’s safe to assume that Grazer is going to join forces James Wan and Jason Momoa, and merge his Splash remake with their Aquaman movie. After all, Grazer has to do something to compete with Kick-Ass star Chloë Grace Moretz’s Little Mermaid flick, which means his movie’s going to need a whole slew of tridents. And Wan did say he wanted to have more “fun” with his foray into the DC Extended Universe than his predecessors, and what better way to do that than with a meet-cute at a sushi bar? They could also capitalize on the gender-swapping momentum in films by having Momoa play the Madison character. Wow, this thing practically writes itself!
