Comic Book Man Kevin Smith to direct an episode of The Flash

It looks like noted comic-book aficionado Kevin Smith has finally found a way to indulge his interests—The Wrap reports that Smith has been tapped to direct a season two episode of The Flash. Smith isn’t said to be writing the episode, which will air in May, but his Green Arrow story arc for DC Comics, Quiver, was well received by critics. If he does write the episode, at least we know Smith won’t work titanic tarantulas into the script. And if not, Smith will probably find a way to reference his idea for the episode in his upcoming MallBrats movie.

The CW announced Smith’s guest-director spot during its press junket at the Television Critics Association winter press tour on Sunday, during which time the network president, Mark Pedowitz, talked about his ill-fated, villain-focused concept for Legends Of Tomorrow. Pedowitz also addressed the lack of woman-led comics fare on his network, despite having three superhero shows in production; after admitting he regretted having passed on Supergirl, Pedowitz said that the CW would back Arrow and The Flash creator Greg Berlanti whenever he was ready to work on such a show. Pedowitz talked up the title character from the CW Seed’s animated series Vixen as a contender for her own live-action series, if she doesn’t find her way onto Legends Of Tomorrow.
