Common admits he’d still like to play Green Lantern
Common’s recent trip to the DC Extended Universe apparently hasn’t put him off from returning to it. The rapper-actor played Monster T (who was possibly the comics’ Tattooed Man) in Suicide Squad, where he got up close and personal with Jared Leto’s Joker. And he tells IGN that he’d love to join the Green Lantern Corps movie that was announced in July 2015.
The new adaptation will feature both Hal Jordan and John Stewart, and is being written by David Goyer and Justin Rhodes. Warner Bros. recently described it as “Lethal Weapon in space,” which was probably one of the better ideas bandied about for it. Common is now lobbying for the role of Stewart, because he really digs how “community-driven” the character is.
“He used his mind to do a lot of things so I connected with him. I just love the character, but I don’t know, I haven’t talked to DC about it but, you know, hey! Yeah, I would love [to]. That would be an honor to play John Stewart.”
There’s also the small matter of Common having been cast in the role of Stewart in George Miller’s now-defunct Justice League movie. But he’s got new competition for the part from Sterling K. Brown, who seems equally pumped about seeing John Stewart on screen. We’ll have to wait for their chemistry test with Ryan Reynolds, who’s rumored to be up for the role of Hal Jordan again. For now, you can catch Common in John Wick: Chapter 2.
