Common grabs his seat in Barbershop 3

It’s a good time to be Common. The rapper-turned-actor-who-still-raps recently won a Best Original Song Oscar for his and John Legend’s “Glory,” and he’s been scooping up film roles ever since. He’ll star in Rob Reiner’s Being Charlie, join Billy Bob Thornton to take on a renegade Russian sub in Hunter Killer, play a superhero in Suicide Squad, and he’s even rumored to be the second most popular rapper in the cast of Spike Lee’s Chiraq. (Kanye West looks primed to ruin his first billing.) Now with Barbershop 3 officially set to return viewers to a South Side Chicago barbershop owned by Ice Cube’s character, Deadline reports that Common has signed on for the fun.

Barbershop 2: Back In Business was released in 2004, so there’s over a decade of banter and hair-related humor to catch up on. Cedric The Entertainer and Ice Cube will reprise their roles, with Malcolm D. Lee (The Best Man) directing and Kenya Barris and Tracy Oliver penning the script. The film is expected to land some time in 2016 but doesn’t have an official release date yet, which makes the wait difficult to measure in number of haircuts.
