Con Air director considers a sequel (in space), works on a new TV show with The Who

Okay, so he’s probably not deeply considering it, but Con Air director Simon West made passing mention recently that he’d be up for directing a sequel to the vastly underrated marathon of ridiculousness, but only if “it was completely turned on its head. Con Air In Space, for example. A studio version where they’re all robots or the convicts are reanimated as super-convicts, or where the good guys are bad guys and the bad guys are good guys.”

In news more likely to actually happen, West—whose credits also include Rick Astley’s “Never Gonna Give You Up” video, so in effect he invented the Rickroll—is supposedly in talks with members of The Who to collaborate on Mods And Rockers, a TV show exploring London’s ’60s rock scene. Screen Daily is reporting that West has been exploring the idea with Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey, who spent quite a bit of time exploring that world already with Quadrophenia. “We’re not remaking Quadrophenia but it’s that kind of world,” he told the site. “It will also cover the rockers’ side of the story and spills out into the wider world of swinging ’60s London, taking in gangsters, music and fashion.” If they can add Rick Astley, a little girl accosted by Steve Buscemi in some sort of wasteland, Dave Chappelle falling from a plane, and Nic Cage protecting a teddy bear, it could be the perfect West project.
