Concert news: Smashing Pumpkins, Live Earth, Beasties

In line with the fanciful bluster surrounding their new album, the Smashing Pumpkins will return as a live band with a show Paris in May. It's their first since the band's 2000 farewell show in Chicago, but according to Reuters the band's lineup is still unclear, beyond Billy Corgan and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin.

It's good to know that the folks in Congress still care about their Constitutional duty to organize good rock shows. Al Gore's plans to hold one of his Live Earth concerts on the west lawn of the Capitol have been held up, partly thanks to Republican objections.

The Beastie Boys announced on their website yesterday that they'll play several instrumental-only shows on their tour this spring and summer.
