Connie Britton to star in Bravo's Dirty John anthology
After appearing in just the first seasons of American Horror Story and American Crime Story, Connie Britton will be returning to the world of anthology TV shows with Bravo’s Dirty John. The first season of the show will be based on the true-crime podcast of the same name, which followed Los Angeles Times reporter Christopher Goffard as he uncovered the horrifying story of Dirty John Meehan, a next-level scumbag who conned and manipulated his way into the life of a woman named Debra Newell.
Variety says that Britton will be playing Newell in Bravo’s Dirty John, but it doesn’t look like anyone else has been cast yet. Also, since it’s not really clear how an adaptation of this one podcast can be an anthology, Variety notes that the second season of Dirty John—which Bravo has already ordered—”will focus on a different case.” Meanwhile, Oxygen is developing a traditional documentary series based on the same material, so you’ll have plenty of opportunities to learn about Dirty John Meehan even if you skipped the podcast.
