Conor Oberst has dropped his libel lawsuit against Joanie Faircloth, the woman who accused Oberst of rape before later retracting the charge. Last week, Faircloth issued a statement recanting her accusation in an XO Jane comment thread, saying everything she had said was “100% false” and made up “to get attention.” Oberst also issued a statement last week, saying that he accepted her apology but also that the scrutiny had been “extremely difficult and stressful for me personally and for those I love.”
Oberst had been seeking $1.2 million from Faircloth and had said he would donate any money he received to charities that benefit female victims of domestic violence.
