Cookie Monster shows he’s hungry for mashups with his latest Busta Rhymes cover
Sesame Street’s Cookie Monster is more than his insatiable appetite for baked goods. He’s also one of the most prolific cover artists of our times, if YouTube is to be believed. In his latest performance, the fuzzy blue beast bounces his way through Busta Rhymes’ “Woo Hah!!” with help from the YouTube mashup channel isthishowyougoviral. In this mashup, the Monster continues to display both an evident admiration for Busta (please watch this “Gimme Some More” video) and a deep passion for music in general.
Many entertainers are multitalented, so it should come as no surprise that the Muppets can hold their own in music, too. Cookie Monster, especially, is a flexible artist. His appreciation for classic hip-hop, from Busta Rhymes and Dr. Dre to Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, A Tribe Called Quest, and Mystikal, is evident. Lest he allow himself to be pigeonholed, our boy also displays an affection for the punishing tones of Cannibal Corpse and, perhaps his greatest success outside of rap, the later, Kathleen Brennan-influenced output of the great Tom Waits.
Cookie Monster appears to be treating this calling as more than a side gig. Given enough time, in fact, we may reasonably predict that he will soon appear in YouTube videos for every mildly popular song ever written. Best of luck, Monster. We hope to be celebrating your output long into the future.
