Coroner confirms George Michael died of natural causes
The BBC reports that the late pop star George Michael died of natural causes. According to the Oxfordshire coroner’s office, a “dilated cardiomyopathy with myocarditis and fatty liver” led to the singer’s death in December 2016. Michael died on Christmas Day, and Thames Valley Police initially reported that his death was “unexplained,” though not necessarily “suspicious.” The first post-mortem examination yielded nothing conclusive, so the funeral was put on hold while further tests were conducted. But with the cause of death now determined as natural, Michael’s family can finally move forward with his burial. In a statement, the Oxfordshire coroner’s office said no further information would be released, and relayed the family’s request for privacy at this time.
